Pennsylvania Attorney for Prenuptial and Postnuptial Agreements

If you love each other, do you really need a prenuptial or postnuptial agreement? Yes, you do! Prenuptial agreements, also know as prenups or prenupts, and postnuptial agreements are symbols of maturity and intelligence—not signs that couples do not love or trust each other or that they are planning for divorce. These agreements make it possible for you to:

  • Keep family heirlooms within the family
  • Protect the financial futures of your children and loved ones
  • Legally establish your wishes for your assets and for your family

Having worked with countless couples, including military personnel and their families, I understand the emotions and frustration that can result from not having pre- and postnuptial agreements in place. I can help you work through misunderstandings and miscommunication and to finalize a mutually acceptable plan.

E-mail me or call 717-260-3145 or 866-534-8769 to speak with an experienced lawyer about prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.

Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements are important documents that legally protect your choices should your relationship dissolve. Just as a will determines how your estate will be divided in the event of your death, pre- and postnuptial agreements determine how your possessions will be divided in the event of a divorce.

Prenuptial agreements protect assets and property obtained prior to a marriage. The agreement allows you to decide how your personal property would be distributed in divorce, specifically protecting property, family heirlooms or other prized possessions for named family members and loved ones.

Postnuptial agreements pertain to property personally gained during a marriage. This agreement protects assets, such as a significant inheritance, from becoming community/marital property and subject to division in divorce.

It is a sign of true love and deep trust to enter into prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. Deciding to make these agreements signifies respect for individual choice, not intent to cancel a financial obligation to a marriage partner. By deciding how pensions, bank accounts or family heirlooms will be divided should the relationship fail, couples can then spend their time and effort on building marriages that will last.

Resolving Disputes, Rebuilding Relationships

As a counselor at law, I truly hope you will never need to put prenuptial and postnuptial agreements into use. However, should your relationship end, having a legal agreement in place will protect your wishes and save your treasures for those who will truly appreciate their value. It will significantly reduce legal fees and emotional stress during the difficult time of finalizing your divorce.
